In Case You Missed It #5
This week I am preparing to go on my business trip to Orlando, Florida next weel. My wife and daughter will stay home. We checked on the prices for airfare, hotel and food and it was way out of our budget. Our Community group that we are leading will be preparing for our Reformation Party on October 28th. This will be our 3rd annual event. Reformation Day is celebrated on October 31st each year.
It is in rememberance of Martin Luther, who posted a proposal at the doors of a church in Wittenberg, Germany to debate the doctrine and practice of indulgences. This proposal is popularly known as the 95 Theses, which he nailed to the Castle Church doors. This was not an act of defiance or provocation as is sometimes thought. Since the Castle Church faced Wittenberg's main thoroughfare, the church door functioned as a public bulletin board and was therefore the logical place for posting important notices. Also, the theses were written in Latin, the language of the church, and not in the vernacular. Nonetheless, the event created a controversy between Luther and those allied with the Pope over a variety of doctrines and practices.

In Case You Missed It #2

- Today, me and my daughter went to the health clinic. She was diagnosed with Sinusitis and ear ache. I was diagnosed with Bronchitis and Sinusitis. Thankfully, we were not diagnosed with the human, pig or bird flus. It has been twelve years since I had Bronchitis.

- Here are few interesting Christian articles to read:
- The Resurgence of Calvinism in America by J. Ligon Duncan. There is a reformed resurgence going on. It is young. It is vast. It stretches across at least the English speaking world. In Bible churches, Baptist churches, Independent churches and Charismatics churches. There is a fever for the glory of God that has gotten into the blood stream of a new generation. What is going on? Where did this come from?
- The Truth About Canadian Health Care by Canadian Blogger Tim Challies. But what I do want to say is this: the truth about Canadian Health Care is that it’s really stinkin’ good. As a nation we are hard-wired to complain and we do tend to complain about our health system as we grumble about our politicians, hockey players and donuts. But we also like to boast and when we talk to Americans, one of the things we like to boast in most is the health care system (or the beer, depending on your personality type).
- Hero Worship and Holy Emulation by John Piper. When I say media-driven attention, I am not mainly thinking about radio, TV, and newspapers. They are almost irrelevant. I mean Internet media. Most churches have websites. Sermons and articles and books are available. Often there is audio and video. Recently, for example, John MacArthur and Alistair Begg joined many others, including Desiring God, in making their online audio sermons free.

- Here are some good Homeschool articles to read and links to look at:
- A Place for the Husband by Brenda at the Family Revisited blog. Dads get a bad rap on TV. Sitcoms as well as commercials depict husband/fathers as really big dolts who can't think past the end of their noses. And many women are really willing to agree that it is so in their life.
- The New School Year: Planning Your Course and Letting the Lord Determine Your Steps Free E-Book PDF. This encouraging read will teach you how to find more time in your school schedule, plan for multi-level teaching, organize Mt. Schoolwork (that pile of loose paper and hoped-for plans) and will restore your passion for educating your children at home.
- 100 Best Blogs for Homeschooling Moms. The public school system isn’t for everyone. Some kids require special attention no classroom experience can provide. Whether your child is gifted or coping with learning disabilities, teaching at home caters to their specific needs. Check out these blogs perfect for homeschooling moms.
- American Homeschool Association Blog and Journal. The American Homeschool Association has been serving homeschooling families with advocacy, support, information and networking since 1995.
- The First Year of Homeschooling Your Child by Linda Dobson. Are your palms sweating? Are you shaking in your boots? Welcome to Your First Year of Homeschooling! And relax. Here it’s understood that you’re at least a little - or perhaps a lot - apprehensive about your ability to enjoy and succeed in homeschooling.

In Case You Missed It #3

The last four days, my family went to my wife's aunt's cabin in Folsom, Oklahoma for an extended weekend for our 11th anniversary. We had a relaxing, peaceful time up there. The mornings were cool and crisp. We saw my wife's great-grandparents and her brother during this trip for they live in the area. We had ample time to pray to our Lord and read scriptures.

In Case You Missed It - Homeschool Edition #1
My wife Becky and my daughter Kaylynn has started homeschooling for the first time in mid-August. My daughter is 5 1/2 years old and she is being taught her main kindergarten curriculum, 'My Father's World' as well as her 'Building Thinking Skills Primary' and 'Saxon Math' curriculum. She is learning new things everyday. My wife is a member of her support group, 'New Beginnings' and a member of her co-ops, 'For The Children's Sake' and 'Physical Education Play'. She has a few girlfriends who also homeschool their children to find additional support. My wife enjoys the blogsposts that I found for her about homeschooling and homesteading. So, I am now starting my homeschool edition of 'In Case You Missed It.'

In Case You Missed It #7
I have made it back from my Orlando business trip last friday. The student employer conference was pretty good, met new associates from around the world. I spent most of my free time in Downtown Disney buying presents for my daughter and wife and eating dinner. Coming home, the airplane from Orlando to Houston never showed up due to a lightning strike. The plane got hit the night before, they couldn't repair it, they had to wait for a plane to leave from Paris, France, to Houston, Texas to us in Orlando, Florida. So I had to wait 8 hours at the Orlando airport and got to Houston around 11pm. Stayed overnight at the Houston airport's hotel and flew into College Station the next morning at 11am. This ordeal took 23 hours total. What a pain!
