In Case You Missed It #9

The Christian walk is difficult at times. There are times when our Enemy and enemies pursues us, times when we go through trials, tribulations and sufferings, times where we lose our bearings and we become directionless, aimless and in a rut. Also, there are times in our Christian walk, we go through wilderness times where we are buffeted. The Lord said in Hebrews 12:5-11 about disciplining us:
And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
The Lord also said in Deuteronomy 8:2-6 about leading us into the wilderness:
And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Your clothing did not wear out on you and your foot did not swell these forty years. Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the Lord your God disciplines you. So you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him.

In Case You Missed It - Homeschool Edition #3

Last week, my wife taught my daughter about the five senses as her unit study. We picked up a free video to watch from the TAMU's Educational Media Services. That went well and my daughter learned about her five senses. This week, my daughter changed her mind. My wife wanted to teach on dinosaurs as a unit study but my daughter refused and wanted to study on gemstones. So my wife relented and went to the public library and got some new library books on gemstones. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to read to my daughter and showed her the cool pictures from the books. I read to her about about what a Lapidary is and does with the gemstones.

In Case You Missed It #8

It is the weekend again and we are relaxing this afternoon. We do not have any planned things to do outside of church this weekend. Hopefully, we will take an opportunity to take a walk at the local park and read some books together.  We will finish up watching Season 3 of Doctor Who. We have been getting the DVD videos for free from TAMU's Educational Media Services.  I have been a fan of Doctor Who since I was 7 or 8 years old. I started watching it when Tom Baker was the Doctor. It is one of the longest running sci-fi shows that spans over 40 years.

There has been new audio put out recently and undiscovered audio by me searching for it that you might want to hear:

Happy Reformation Day!

On this day, October 31st, 1517, Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses to the church door in Wittenburg hoping to initiate a discussion to reform the church. And it's the Gospel, the good news, that is the legacy of the Reformation that is our blessing each and every day, to live under the Gospel, the good news.

The Reformation began with the question Martin Luther asked, “How do I obtain a gracious God?” That good news is familiar to us today but it wasn't so in Luther's time, and that is the significance of the Reformation. We know we can be reconciled with God through Jesus.

Max Mclean has made available a free MP3 download of his 'Martin Luther's - Here I Stand' on his website. It's only availble today and tomorrow. Here is the summary of the MP3.
In the late afternoon of April 18, 1521, in the city of Worms, Germany, Martin Luther, a 37 year-old Catholic monk was called to defend himself before Charles the Fifth, the Holy Roman Emperor. The speech he delivered that day, Here I Stand, marked the beginning of the Reformation, a critical turning point in Christian history, that decisively altered the spiritual map of the world. In this recording, Max McLean introduces the events leading up to the Diet of Worms: Martin Luther’s prayer the night before he delivered his speech; Luther's stirring defense; the Catholic church’s rebuttal; and, Luther’s final heartfelt response.
Here is a viral You Tube video on the Reformation Polka.

If you are interested in audio sermons on the Reformation Day, I have created a post a few years back of sermons from 2007 & 2008. When I worked for Monergism, I created the Reformation Day page full of audio sermons.

In Case You Missed It #7

I have made it back from my Orlando business trip last friday. The student employer conference was pretty good, met new associates from around the world. I spent most of my free time in Downtown Disney buying presents for my daughter and wife and eating dinner. Coming home, the airplane from Orlando to Houston never showed up due to a lightning strike. The plane got hit the night before, they couldn't repair it, they had to wait for a plane to leave from Paris, France, to Houston, Texas to us in Orlando, Florida. So I had to wait 8 hours at the Orlando airport and got to Houston around 11pm. Stayed overnight at the Houston airport's hotel and flew into College Station the next morning at 11am. This ordeal took 23 hours total. What a pain!

In Case You Missed It - Homeschool Edition #2

For several years now, we have been doing our Family Worship time together. In the mornings before I go to work, I spend time reading the bible and praying with my daughter to start the day out. When my wife starts doing her homeschool schedule, she has taught our daughter using her catechism books and her storybook bible. Three to four evenings a week, we have our Family Worship time of reading the bible, singing hymns, reading her storybook bible and praying for family and friends together. One of those evenings, we intergrate our Family Worship time within our Community Group we lead through our church. Our church is big on making sure we minister to the young and old in our community groups and not to exclude the one for the other. Our schedule of events are flexible and not rigid. We have accumulated quite a few marriage, parenting and catechism books to help us the last few years. We haven't read them all because of my work schedule and the lack of time in the evenings. Here are a few books to look at for your Family Worship.

In Case You Missed It #6

The Lord reminded me this morning in prayer that the current events that are going on in America are temporal and will past, but His Kingdom is eternal and that I have eternal life. The wicked men and women who are in the government and the media will plot and scheme, they will carry out their agenda's to destroy conservatism and ultimately, the Christian Faith and those who possess it. I read in the bible of the saints of old, how they trusted the Lord in the midst of the great hostility towards them, how they endured through it when they called up the name of the Lord. They prayed to Him and He answered their prayers and delivered them. I too need that confidence in the Lord.

Next two months, I will be updating my archived posts and try to remove the dead links and update the posts with new links. Most of the new links will come from Monergism MP3 Library page where I created and uploaded them when I worked for Monergism for 1 1/2 years. There also might be some new sermons from the google search as well.

In Case You Missed It - Homeschool Edition #1

My wife Becky and my daughter Kaylynn has started homeschooling for the first time in mid-August. My daughter is 5 1/2 years old and she is being taught her main kindergarten curriculum, 'My Father's World' as well as her 'Building Thinking Skills Primary' and 'Saxon Math' curriculum. She is learning new things everyday. My wife is a member of her support group, 'New Beginnings' and a member of her co-ops, 'For The Children's Sake' and 'Physical Education Play'. She has a few girlfriends who also homeschool their children to find additional support. My wife enjoys the blogsposts that I found for her about homeschooling and homesteading. So, I am now starting my homeschool edition of 'In Case You Missed It.'

In Case You Missed It #5

This week I am preparing to go on my business trip to Orlando, Florida next weel. My wife and daughter will stay home. We checked on the prices for airfare, hotel and food and it was way out of our budget. Our Community group that we are leading will be preparing for our Reformation Party on October 28th. This will be our 3rd annual event. Reformation Day is celebrated on October 31st each year.

It is in rememberance of Martin Luther, who posted a proposal at the doors of a church in Wittenberg, Germany to debate the doctrine and practice of indulgences. This proposal is popularly known as the 95 Theses, which he nailed to the Castle Church doors. This was not an act of defiance or provocation as is sometimes thought. Since the Castle Church faced Wittenberg's main thoroughfare, the church door functioned as a public bulletin board and was therefore the logical place for posting important notices. Also, the theses were written in Latin, the language of the church, and not in the vernacular. Nonetheless, the event created a controversy between Luther and those allied with the Pope over a variety of doctrines and practices.
