Year of Suffering: Overview

Over the next few posts, I will spend time sharing on the subject of suffering in my family's life. From June 2008 to the present, my family has been going through three consecutive trials of suffering. These trials made trusting God a challenge. (1 Peter 1:6-7) We have encountered much grief, pain, frustration, regret and other emotions this year. We have a very supportive church family, Living Hope Baptist Church, in helping us through the grief and pain.
On June 12th, 5 pm, my precious baby daughter Abigail, 9 days old, passed away at the Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. She died of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. She also suffered from a cleft palate that was discovered 30 minutes after birth.
On October 30th, Becky's father, Alvis, suffered a broken blood vessel in his brain, the blood vessel hemorrhaged and it cause a massive injury to his brain. We spend almost the entire month of November in the hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Over the course of the month, he suffered a Brain Stem Stroke according to his doctor as we found this out the day after thanksgiving. Becky's family decided to remove him from life support per her dad's wishes and he died peacefully on November 29th.
My wife has encountered health problems over the last 7 months, her symptoms of sleep loss, head aches and vision loss got worse. Her doctor did an MRI on her brain on January 2nd and found out she could have a Prolactinoma Pituitary Gland Tumor or Pituitary Gland Epidermoid Cyst. This has been hard on us this last week. She might have to have surgery to remove it or take drugs to shrink it for a very long time.
