The Sermon on the Mount

The Sermon On The Mount by Sinclair Ferguson was a book I purchased last month. I bought this book as an aid in studying the Sermon on the Mount with my community group that I lead. This book and our pastor's notes from my church helps us to go deeper in studying God's word and have a better understanding of what Jesus is saying.
Sinclair Ferguson currently pastors at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina. He has been a conference speaker at Desiring God National Conferences, Ligonier Ministries Pastoral Conference and the Basics Conference.

My Wife's First Game Was Great!

Howdy! My wife and I enjoyed our first Texas Aggie Football game last night. TAMU played against Utah State. We won 38-30. The 12th Man was in full force. Here is a statue of Dr. E. King Gill who inspired the tradition. We arrived at TAMU at 2:30pm and went to see Wade at the Agnors tailgaiting party. The Agnors Family has been tailgaiting and going to the Aggie games for over 60 years. We then waited for the Aggie Football team to be dropped off the bus and be escorted by the Fightin' Texas Aggie Marching Band into the locker rooms. An hour later, the Fightin' Texas Aggie Marching Band went back to the Corp dorms and led all the Corp of Cadets down Joe Routt Blvd in a processional and into the stadium. Right before the game started, the seats were filling up, introduction of the players and the flyover by the military. During halftime, the nationally famous Fightin' Texas Aggie Marching Band performed on the field.

It was a great game and my wife really enjoyed everything.

In Case You Missed It #1

On September 17, the Federal Court in Pensacola, Florida has dropped the "Criminal Contempt Charges in Case Involving Prayer." A local Florida High School Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director Robert Freeman were cleared of criminal contempt charges that arose from the simple blessing of a meal!

Watch a YouTube Video Response by Congressman Randy Forbes, Supports Liberty Counsel's Defense of Principal and Athletic Director for Prayer.

Here is a follow-up article on September 18th, "Florida Prayer Case Reveals ACLU Agenda to Criminalize Christianity."

Watch a YouTube Video of the "The Congressional Prayer Caucus."

Pastor Voddie Baucham wrote an interesting article about the Basketball Hall of Famers David Robinson and Michael Jordan. There was a stark difference between the two acceptance speeches. Michael Jordan’s Speech was self-centered, indulgent, arrogant, and at times embarrassing.  In contrast, David Robinson rose to the occasion and made a brief, inspiring, encouraging speech that made his family, his team, and his friends proud.

A great resource of reading different homeschool blogposts in one sitting would be the Homeschool Blog Carnivals.  A blog carnival is where a host blog receives emails from different bloggers posts by a certain date, compiles it and posts it on a certain date each week.  Here are two carnivals that came out this week.

Preparing for my wife's first game - TAMU vs. Utah State

Howdy!

We are preparing for my wife's first Texas A and M University football game and my second one. There is a lot of history and traditions that we are ignorant of and so, earlier this week, my family visited my Wade, my co-worker and his girlfriend for dinner and we talked about the TAMU campus and football traditions.  Wade's father was an Aggie and the Drum Corp Major in the Corp of Cadets Marching Band in the early 1940's. His family has a lot of history with the campus and has a thorough knowledge of its traditions.

Here is the schedule of events Wade referred us to for tomorrow's game.

Change and Exhaustion

The Schafer Family has been going through a lot of change lately.  We have faced a lot of exhaustion both spiritually and physically this summer.  My work at TAMU has been extremely busy and I have taken on extra tasks. My wife is in full-swing with homeschooling our daughter. I am currently involved in serving through our church in leading a discipleship class starting next week, leading our community group and helping out once a month in children's church. My wife is involved with the preschool ministry twice a month and helping me with the community group. Lastly, then there is the involvement in working on our marriage and parenting.

We are looking forward to our anniversary at the end of the month. We will be going to my wife's aunts cabin in Oklahoma for a weekend where we will have no tv or internet. We will take the time to become unbusied and relax once again.  This will give us an opportunity to really connect with our Lord through prayer and reading/meditation of the bible.
